Ann Wagner, a respected conservative from the St. Louis area who ran U.S. Sen.-elect Roy Blunt successful campaign, will reportedly seek the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee. It is not known if the current chief, Michael Steele, will seek re-election.
Wagner is a former U.S. ambassador and Missouri GOP chair. Of course Blunt is a member of First Baptist Church, Branson.
Wagner’s apparent decision may be a signal that former Sen. Jim Talent will be the Republican challenger to Claire McCaskill who must run for re-election in 2012. Talent, an intellectual powerhouse, is a committed follower of Christ and attends a Presbyterian PCA church. He is regarded favorably by many Tea Partiers. McCaskill edged Talent in 2006 by about 1 percent.
