Great meetings in Jefferson City today as the various committees of the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) Executive Board met at the Baptist Building. Probably the two most interesting topics arising that will probably trigger interesting discussion when the full board meets Tuesday morning are David Tolliver’s update report on the work of the Organizational Study Committee (OSG) and the possibility of the MBC developing closer ties with the Iowa Baptist Convention.
The OSG is scheduled to bring its recommended new structure for the convention staff at the April board meeting. Tolliver said a specially called Executive Board meeting will occur in June to make final adjustments to the structure if deemed necessary.
Tolliver said a task force will be formed to study a possible closer relationship between the MBC and the Iowa Baptist Convention. The move is in response to a request for assistance by Iowa Baptist Convention Executive Director Jimmy Barrentine. The MBC Executive Board’s Administrative Committee authorized the task force and it will be interesting to see where all this leads in light of the Great Commission Resurgence changes occurring throughout the Southern Baptist Convention.
Great unity and a sweet spirit prevailed in all the committee meetings and there is a growing sense that the MBC has turned a corner and is gaining steam for the future.
