A little political news of interest to Christians

Two candidates running for offices here in Missouri got important endorsements this week and Christian voters ought to take notice.
First, former Arkansas Gov. and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, now a Fox News Channel personality and a former Southern Baptist pastor and president of the Arkansas Baptist Convention, has endorsed U.S. Rep. Todd Akin for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Claire McCaskill. Akin is widely known for his Christian beliefs actually holds a master of divinity degree. The Huckabee endorsement is a reflection of Akin’s strong, conservative voting record, particularly when it comes to pro-family and pro-life issues. Huckabee will appear at a rally for Akin Saturday (March 3) at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center, 3615 S. Range Line Rd., in Joplin.
The second endorsement is that of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft in support of Ed Martin for state attorney general. Ashcroft, known for leading Bible studies at the U.S. Justice Department during his tenure as attorney general, noted Martin’s commitment “to the rule of law. His executive governmental responsibilities and his legal experience as a clerk of the federal district court together with his years as a private sector lawyer eminently qualify him for service as attorney general of Missouri.” Martin is also known for his strong pro-life, pro-family views.
As we pray and seek God’s guidance before voting our conscience, may we also be discerning.
